Manufacturer warranty issues

I purchased a Nikon camera from a seller who confirmed that the camera was purchased three weeks ago, from a UK website. As with Nikon products you are able to extend the warranty if done within a certain period of time.I asked the seller if it would come with a manufactures warranty and if it could still be extended, to which he answered yes on both accounts. The sale completed and payment was confirmed on 9 Sep 2009. Obviously, as with most warranties I require a proof of purchase, which was not sent with the goods. After many excuses, he eventually emailed me an invoice from Amazon, which after a telephone conversation with Amazon they confirmed the order number was too short. After a second attempt, he confirmed that yes Amazon had made an error and then sent me another proof of purchase, however this was identical except that he had cut and stuck new dates over the old invoice dates. (and a terrible job at that)When I queried this he got abusive and said he would not deal with me anymore. Is there a possibility for me to get a partial refund for the item, as no proof of purchase was provided and therefore no warrant, or is my only resort to request a full refund?I assume paypal would refund the return postage costs at the same time? Many thanks
