I recently had my account hijacked due to a scammer who used a very convincing link through the E-Bay my messages system.
Basically I placed a "Want It Now" add for an item and a few days passed and I got a message inviting me to look at an item they stated was already on E-Bay and all I had to do was follow the link with what looked like a proper ebay item number. Feeling really glad that the item I was in need off was available and someone had been so kind as to let me know of its existence and was giving me first refusal on it, like a fool I rushed in without thinking. On clicking the link a very convincing E-Bay sign in page appeared, to which again like a fool I entered my user name and password, but when I clicked the sign in button all I got was a typical browser error message.
I went back to my ebay again and recovered the message, copied the item no. then pasted it into the search bar, but it was not recognized by ebayas itwas one digit too short of the standard item no., I sent a reply to the sender asking if they'd missed out the final digit of the item no. but no reply was forthcoming, although disappointedI thought no more of it.
Afew days later several unauthorised items were put for sale on my account and asking for very large sums of money, I immediately contacted ebay and they confirmed my account had been hijacked, during their retrieval processthey asked me if I had any unusual experiences lately,I forwarded them themessage regarding my want it now, however it could not be traced and I never heard outcome to what happened or if they carried out any investigation into it, allI can say is this, if you receive any messages from an "anonymous member" forwarded it on to the E-bay trust and Safety team.
